For the residential construction market we maintain a 5,000 sqft. showroom of products, including decorative door, cabinet, and furniture hardware as well as bath fixtures, faucets, and accessories. We literally have thousands of products available to us through our extensive network of manufacturers that adhere to the residential construction market. As for the commercial construction market we offer contract hardware, architectural flush wood doors, hollow metal doors & frames, fiberglass doors and frames, toilet partitions, and bath accessories, translucent skylights and wall panels as well as many other construction specialty products typically found in division 10.

Services provided by Rayford & Associates include specification writing for architects and developers by our own, in-house certified AHC (Architectural Hardware Consultant). We offer preventive maintenance contracts for any facility to help the end-user keep their longterm cost down. We also offer installation services on projects. We have a crew that will come on site and install any job from 1 door to over 3,000 as we’ve done in the past. Ask about our new“pre-dress” install packages.

Integrated packages are offered as well. The contract hardware market has headed in a direction that includes access control products and Rayford & Associates is following the trend. We offer a completely integrated package for our customers that are looking for access control on their projects. This includes the access control hardware, the software, and the installation. All this being done by ONE supplier, which creates less confusion, and in the long run less problems.

ounded in March 1950 by Walter Shearer and Howard Rayford the company was originally called Shearer and Rayford and did business as manufacturers sales agents for the commercial construction industry. The company opened its office with one employee above a deli on St. Joseph Street in downtown Mobile, Alabama.

Seeing a need to increase sales and offer additional products, a salesman and another secretary joined the firm in 1952 which necessitated a move into a larger space which was located on St. Louis Street.

As the company continued to grow, property was purchased for the construction of a new building at 2504 Old Shell Road and the company moved in January 1956.

Through the years the need to stock merchandise became evident, which again required more space. In 1967 a building at 2567 Old Shell Road was purchased and remodeled. This move signified the shift of the company from manufacturers sales agents to actual stocking distributors of a full line of commercial hardware including hinges, locks, exit devices, etc.

Seeing a real void in the Gulf Coast residential construction market for the availability of decorative door hardware, bath fixtures, faucets, and cabinet hardware, a showroom for these products was opened in the late 1970’s. The building at 2567 Old Shell Road underwent numerous renovations through the years as the decorative department has grown.

After Walter Shearer’s retirement in 1980, the company’s name was changed from Shearer and Rayford to Rayford & Associates, Inc. and Howard Rayford became President and major stockholder. Following the retirement of Howard Rayford in 1986, the leadership of the company passed to his son T. Forress Rayford Sr, who presently serves as the President of Rayford & Associates, Inc.

We are now in a new 20,000 square foot facility at 2701 Dauphin Street with a 5,000 square foot showroom and have the most extensive display of decorative door hardware, bath fixtures, faucets and accessories, as well as cabinet hardware on the Gulf Coast. This move has also allowed us to increase office and warehouse space as well as our commercial hollow metal door and frame shop.
